Snowflake 2020 - Day 4
Jan. 7th, 2020 03:52 pmChallenge #4: In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.
Goals...hmm. Last year I made a long, long list and I didn't even hit half of them - which is fine, I said at the time it wasn't a stick to beat myself with, and I did not expect to be moving to Scotland in 2019, which threw a lot of things out of kilter. Even so, let's be a little more realistic this year.
Fannish
1) Co-mod the Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang again.
2) Take part in the following fandom exchanges:
I may do others if time and energy levels permit (Hurt/Comfort Exchange and Trick or Treat are on the reserve list) but I don't want to over-commit and burn myself out.
3) Work on Summer's Song and The City Over the Mountains. I will almost certainly write other things too, but those are my priorities from a longfic perspective.
Personal
1) Drink more water, instead of automatically reaching for fizzy drinks.
2) Keep a list of the books I read through the year.
3) Learn basic Gaelic. (I've made a start but I'm at the very, very early stages of this. By the end of the year I'd like to be able to construct actual sentences, use tenses properly etc.)

Date: 2020-01-12 03:06 pm (UTC)That is very wise! I managed that a few times, which is why I'm only participating at one or two challenges/fests over the year by now, or do the occasional pinch hit.
Good luck with the water drinking! Definitely a good goal. I had to get to a daily minimum of 3l for metabolical purposes a few years back and started to count what I drank - I wasn't supposed to count anything with sugar but I don't drink much of that anyway, but water and tea - I drink a LOT of tea, black, green and herbal, but not very strong and never with anything in it. So I measured how much liquid content my usual cups, mugs and glasses held, and started to make a list. Which became quickly tedious, so I got myself a few Legos, different sizes for differnet amounts, and a small base plate, and kept them at my desk. This was fun and super easy. I'm still doing the 3l thing although mainly because I'm no so used to it that I don't feel well with less, but I no longer need to count. I've used the water count option of my fitbit as well, but the Lego variant was much easier and more fun. ^^
And how awesome that you're learning Gaelic! I've always wanted to learn at least some, too; like a few other exotic languages (Sindarin, Finnish, Breton XD )but found that without a proper class and sound examples I don't really get far. Best of luck with that as well!

Date: 2020-01-12 05:05 pm (UTC)Gaelic is a lovely language - as are the ones you listed 😊 I hope you get chance to learn them some time. Personally I think Breton would be amazing. Or Cornish! (I have a thing for the Celtic languages XD )
